YouTube Shares Tips for Engaging Shorts

If you don’t think long-form content is for you, have you tried YouTube Shorts? These short videos are driving 70 billion daily views on the platform – yes, that is a lot of people you could be reaching.

So, since short-form content is not going anywhere, YouTube has shared some tips for how to create high quality engaging Shorts.

Tutorials, comedic skits, behind-the-scenes content, trending challenges and musical snippets are some of the best performing options you can tap into. Added to that, it’s important to pay attention to things like titles, hashtags, descriptions and thumbnails.

Similar to other video platforms, YouTube recommends users to experiment and find the right style and content that works for them. But these are some more general tips that might help you:

  • Consistency: Posting regularly will help you build an audience.
  • Link your content: You can link viewers to more of your content, it’s an opportunity to give them a deeper dive into the type of content you create (and that they might want to engage with).
  • Interact with viewers: If you’re getting views and interactions with your content but you are not engaging with those, you won’t be able to build your audience, so make sure to do that!
  • Analysis: YouTube offers some great analytics to track your videos’ performance and identify what resonates with your viewers.
  • Promotion: A no brainer, if you share your Shorts on other social media platforms you will be able to reach a wider audience.
  • Trending Audio: Using trending audio will increase the likelihood of your videos being shown to more people.

BBC One has a new series that you don’t want to miss.

From the producers of Netflix hit ‘Adolescence’, Reunion is a thriller that tells the story of a deaf man on a journey of revenge after a decade in prison.

To make this even more exciting, the whole cast is deaf or uses BSL (YES!), and the show seamlessly mixes both spoken English (with captions) and British Sign Language. A powerful must-watch that covers many struggles that deaf people face every day.

LinkedIn Creates ‘Mini-Site’ of Posting Tips

If you’re looking at improving your LinkedIn strategy this year, this new ‘site’ might be exactly what you need!

It includes general posting tips, as well as specific ones, depending on the type of post you’re working on. For example, if you’re creating a text-based post, it gives you information of what that would be best for, and even how to level it up.

It’s worth noting that they have a video section that is going to be especially beneficial to users as video is increasing on the platform, with 1.4x more engagement than other posts. It will give you tips on ideal length, performance as well as video specs.

A new handy site from LinkedIn, but it will be interesting to see them providing accessibility tips alongside this.

TikTok just dropped new ways for creators to get paid!

Added to their Creator Rewards Programme, creators can now earn even more through brand challenges, offer subs to fans, and get rewarded for original, longer content. This invite-only programme is all about helping creators and building real careers on the app.

Even though this is great news for TikTok creators, those based in the US might still feel uneasy about the future of the app, with no signs of an agreement between China and the USA any time soon.

Like we mentioned above, video content keeps growing across platforms, including on LinkedIn, with a 36% YoY increase 😲. And the platform is now (smartly) collaborating with Canva to make it even easier to post and grow through videos.

The new Canva templates will provide users with overlays and effects aligned with LinkedIn’s guidelines. An exciting collaboration that will help with video creation and creating best-in-class content for LinkedIn.

Do you think this collaboration with Canva will be extended to other platforms?

Campaign Spotlight: IKEA

IKEA deserves two mentions in this week’s newsletter. Not only they launched their new accessible range, but they also smashed it with their latest ad featuring a cast that lots of people will be obsessed with: cute babies. They really know how to get us.

The fun short film features how IKEA furniture helps kids’ development and first steps. A great storytelling idea that will resonate with families out there!

We are definitely in love.
